Vetti til Turtagrø Matta1379 1. juni 2022
Vetti Farm via Skogadalsbøen Cabin up Fannaråken to Turtagrø
Hike description

From Vetti Gard, please follow the old mountain road and the trail that goes steeply up to the foot of the Vettisfossen waterfall and the mountain hamlet of Vettismorki. At the crossroads, please turn toward Sletterust (or a detour to the top of the Vettisfossen waterfall).

From the hamlet, the trail continues in hilly terrain over bogs and rivers, through the valley of Fleskenosdalen and via Friken at 1503 masl. The trail is 150 meters below the top point, but Friken is worth a detour. From here, the trail continues onwards via the crossroad of Uradøla and Skogadøla before ending at Skogadalsbøen at 844 masl.

First day total walking time: ca. 6 hours

From Bøen, the hike takes you through the forest to the Storebrui Bridge and to where the path divides between Olavsbu and Leirvassbu on the eastern side of the bridge and Turtagrø and the Fannaråkhytta cabin on the western side. From here, please follow the trail up the valley of Gjertvassdalen, past Gjertvatnet Lake and up Keisarpasset. Now you’ve arrived at the crossroad where you choose to go to Turtagrø, please make a right turn and prepare for a steep ascent towards Fannaråknosi. The first part of the ascend is in rocky terrain, and early in the season, you might have to make your way over avalanches. Close to the Fannaråkbreen glacier, you’ll come to another crossroad for the route over the glacier to the Sognefjellshytta cabin/Krossbu. Still, please walk on the trail until you arrive at the cabin on the mountaintop of Fanaråken. At 2069 masl, this is Norway’s highest-laying tourist cabin.

Second-day total walking time: ca. 6 hours

The last part of the hike from the Fannaråkhytta Cabin is on a rocky but clear and steep descending trail until you arrive at the hill below the Ekrehytta Cabin. From here, please walk to Helgedalsbotnen and on a gravel path inward in the valley of Helgedalen on the north side of the river until you reach the parking at Turtagrø Hotel.

Third-day total walking time: Ca 3 hours
