Already at the entrance of Norway’s steepest valley, the majestic Hjellefossen waterfall gives a taste of what the hiker will encounter on the People’s Road to Vetti and the Vettisfossen waterfall.

The hike to Vetti farm is one that most people can take; it lasts 1,5 hours. On the way, you will pass the Avdalsfossen waterfall, with a fall of 175 meters, as well as the beautiful Høljafossen waterfall. It doesn’t look so big, but it’s really an optic illusion because of the grand surrounding nature.

On the way, you might take a detour to Avdalen Mountain Farm, the smallholdings of Hagaberg and Kvile, and the DNT cabin in the valley ofGravdalen. These hikes last one hour and 2.5 hours from the starting point at Hjelle.

When you arrive at Vetti, you have two options. The first is a 30-minute hike to the foot of Vettisfossen waterfall. After 20 minutes, you can make a turn to the Stølsmaradalen valley.

The second trail takes you to the top. This hike is a bit more demanding but very doable for experienced mountaineers. Both options give you a great view of the tallest waterfall in North Europe.

Early on your hike, you will arrive at Utladalen Naturhus (nature house), which has a cafeteria and exhibitions.
